culture. Sponsored by CIP under the Department of State’s BridgeUSA, this initiative also promotes
cultural exchange, allowing Americans to learn from your unique skills and
perspectives. Programs last up to 12 months and are pre-arranged by you.

- Internships must align with the applicant's field of study.
- Proficiency in English.

What is a J1 intern visa?
The J1 intern visa is a non-immigrant cultural exchange visa issued by the U.S. Department of State. It permits foreign university students to intern with an U.S. organizations for up to 12 months. How long can I be on a J-1 intern visa?

J-2 visas for family and spouses may be available for certain programs. Contact CIP for details.
What is SEVIS?
SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) requires a fee of $220 USD. Participants can pay online (www.fmjfee.com) or have CIP handle it and reimburse them.
Are there any additional fees?
Possibly. Besides CIP Program Fees, U.S. Embassy/Consulate application fees apply and vary by country. Check with

Am I required to have health insurance coverage while on a J1 program?
YES! J1 trainees and dependents must have health insurance that meeting U.S. Department of State requirements. Coverage requirements can be found here:
How do I obtain health insurance?
You can purchase health insurance on your own as long as it meets J1 visa requirements. OR, CIP can provide the necessary J1 visa health insurance through GeoBlue or a list of approved alternatives. Please contact CIP for details and pricing.
