The Transatlantic Exchange in Social Work (TraX) offers a transformative 2-month job-shadowing experience for German citizens, delving deep into the heart of social service and nonprofit settings in the U.S.Participants will have opportunities to exchange ideas with U.S. colleagues and contribute your own expertise and perspectives.
TraX, a pioneering professional development program established through a collaboration between the German government, CIP, and IJAB, fosters dynamic exchanges between Germany and the U.S. This initiative aims to cultivate friendships and facilitate an exchange of innovative ideas in the field of social work.
- Professional development: Immerse yourself in practice-oriented learning within the women, child and youth welfare services sector.
- Building connections: Engage in networking and exchange experiences with professionals from both Germany and the United States.
- Cultural Exchange: Enhance language skills and develop intercultural competencies.
- 2-month job-shadowing experience in a U.S. organization in the field of woman or child and youth welfare
- Program orientation and support
- Volunteering opportunities with a local organization
- Assistance in acquiring J-1 visa sponsorship (U.S. Embassy interview required)
- Mandatory pre- and post-program seminars in Germany
- Ongoing support by local contact persons during the program

- German citizenship
- Completed degree in relevant professional field
- 2 - 3 years of pertinent professional experience in women or child and youth welfare services
- Criminal background check from local city
- Proficient English language skills
- Flexibility and adaptability tonew environments and work practices
- Completion of a final program evaluation as required by the U.S. Department of State
- Program fee of 350,00 €
- Visa processing fee at the U.S. Embassy ($185 USD) and SEVIS fee ($220 USD)
- Personal funds for health insurance, living expenses, public transportation, etc.
